History of Liberal Thought

This course studies the historical foundations of liberal thought from classical antiquity to modernity: its genesis and subsequent transformations. It analyzes the philosophical and moral debates that have involved and continue to involve the concept of freedom. Finally, this course examines the human condition and its implications for the construction of a society of free and responsible individuals. It allows for reflection on fundamental questions of human society: Under what conditions do free individuals obey authority? When can individuals be legitimately coerced?
